Essen, Germany, July 25, 2024 — Huawei’s cutting-edge 2T E-band outdoor unit (ODU), the XMC-80D, has been honored with both the Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award for 2024. This recognition highlights the innovative product design and advanced technology of the XMC-80D, marking the second time Huawei’s microwave technology has been awarded these prestigious accolades, following the XMC-3E in 2021.
The Red Dot Design Award and iF Design Award are internationally renowned for celebrating exceptional design and technological innovation. The XMC-80D was praised for its revolutionary design, which enhances outdoor installation ease while delivering superior signal strength and high-speed performance.
The XMC-80D integrates advanced optimization algorithms that boost coding efficiency, resulting in better spectral utilization. The unit offers up to 25 Gbps bandwidth through dual-channel and dual-polarized transmission, and a single E-band link can achieve speeds of up to 50 Gbps. This capability effectively reduces hardware requirements by nearly 50% and increases capacity by 150% compared to existing E-band solutions, addressing the substantial bandwidth needs of 5G and 5.5G networks.
The XMC-80D also features a flexible unified IDU architecture that allows for cost-effective scaling and smooth evolution. Its design includes a double-sided heatsink for optimized heat dissipation and ergonomic handles for easier transport and installation.
James Zeng, President of Huawei’s Microwave Product Line, commented on the awards: “These accolades affirm our leadership in the microwave sector. We remain committed to advancing simplified backhaul solutions that are easy to deploy while providing ultra-large bandwidth to meet the demanding requirements of 5G and 5.5G networks.”
